Stuart Baker is Professor of Movement Neuroscience at Newcastle University. His research interests include how cortical and sub-cortical systems (such as the brainstem and spinal cord) interact to coordinate voluntary movement. This has led him to an interest in functional recovery after damage, for example after stroke or spinal cord injury, when sub-cortical systems are often critical for restoration of function. He uses a wide range of experimental methods, including neural recordings in awake behaving monkey, and non-invasive electrophysiological measurements from healthy human subjects and patients. He has published over 150 papers in refereed journals
